Witches' Brew · last updated October 4, 2026
Witches' Brew is a game by RTPDS ("we"). This page explains what the game keeps, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- There are no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking.
- We don't ask for your name, email address or location. The only exception is the contact form, where you can choose to give an email address so we can reply.
- To run the leaderboard and cloud saves, our server keeps a few things linked to a random save code, not to you. You can delete them yourself, in the game, at any time.
On your device
The game saves your progress on your device: levels unlocked, stars, best scores, boosters, sound settings, the level you're in the middle of, and your save code. It stays on the device. Clearing the website's data or uninstalling the app removes it.
On our server
When you finish your first level, the game creates an anonymous player on our server, which keeps:
- A save code and a player number. The save code is random, and the server only keeps a one-way scrambled form of it (a SHA-256 hash).
- Your leaderboard name. It starts as a made-up spooky name, and anyone can see it on the leaderboard. Please don't use your real name.
- Your cloud save: the progress listed above, except your sound settings, so you can carry on on another device.
- Each level you finish: which level, the random number that set up its board, your moves, your score and stars, and when. The server replays your moves to check your score, and we use these results to balance the levels.
To stop abuse, such as creating players or sending messages in bulk, the server keeps a scrambled form (a hash) of the IP address of whoever creates a player or sends a message, for two hours at most (usually about one). Our hosting provider may keep its own standard network logs.
The server is an Oracle Cloud database in the United States (Ashburn, Virginia). We don't sell or share any of this, and we never use it for advertising.
Your choices
- Delete your online data. In the game, open Cloud save on the title screen and choose Delete my online data. This deletes your save code, name, cloud save and scores from our server straight away, and turns cloud saves and the leaderboard off on that device, and on any other device that used the same save code, the next time it goes online. Your progress on the devices stays.
- Play offline. The game works fully offline. If you've deleted your online data, nothing goes to our server until you turn cloud saves back on, or load a save code.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, through the contact form. We'll need your save code to find it.
We use this information to provide the leaderboard and cloud saves you choose to use, and to keep the game fair and working (our legitimate interests). If you're in the European Union or the United Kingdom, these are your rights under the GDPR, and you can also complain to your data protection authority.
The contact form
If you send us a message, we keep what you write, its topic, and the email address you give, if any, only to answer you. Messages go to our private issue tracker on GitHub, and are deleted from the game server once they've arrived there.
Children
The game is for all ages, and it doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Leaderboard names are checked to keep them friendly.
How long we keep it
Online data stays until you delete it in the game or ask us to. If we ever shut the server down, everything on it is deleted.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and its date.
